Section Celebrates 40th Anniversary with Gala

A beautiful night. A stunning venue. Old and new friends. Glamorous attire. It all came together on January 23 at the Ultimate Skybox in San Diego when 100 members of the SPTS gathered to celebrate 40 years of excellence in sports physical therapy.

Cocktail hour and dinner were accompanied by the music of the Sam Gibson Trio while photographers captured memories of the evening. Revelers also enjoyed the view of San Diego and the harbor from a firepit and torch-lit balcony. The "photo booth" was a hit with attendees, and brought out the creative among participants.

President Tim Tyler kicked off the evening by sharing his thoughts about what each of the past presidents brought to the table...and to him. "As the current president of SPTS you have all played a part in molding my decision-making thought process during my presidency," President Tyler stated. "The main ingredient of a good SPTS President is the rest of the team.  With that said, no matter how great you think you are or was as SPTS president, we have not become the greatest APTA section because of our work alone. It was those of you sitting in your chair tonight that served our section as a EC member, Team leaders, SIG chairs, SPTS volunteers, APTA leadership and section members. You have made this great section what it has been for the last 40 years and what I hope it will continue to be for the next 40 years."

At the center of the evening's festivities were the past president roasts. Each individual selected a "friend" to roast his tenure as president of the Sports Section. John Dewitt served as the master of ceremonies, and presented a review of the SPTS history as well as notes about the future of the Section.
